J2000 is a distributed hydrological model, designed to quantify the water resources of catchments. It divides them into hydrological response units (HRUs), built by overlaying topography, geology, soils and land use, and routes water from HRU to HRU, then along the rivers.
Rather than a single model, it is a family of models, assembled from components in the JAMS modelling framework, born at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
INRAE has used and developed it since 2010 together with the University of Jena, in the catchment hydrology team (HYBV) of the RiverLy unit.
